Stan Wood (1941-2014) epitomized creativity across many different mediums. A graduate of Portland's now legendary and esteemed Museum School, his artistic practice was heavily informed by the revered “mystic painters” of the Pacific Northwest. From his early beginnings in the 1960s, Stan went on to paint hundreds of intricate abstract pieces in a prolific career spanning decades. His work often employs densely packed lines and overlaying patterns which evoke a sense of vibration within an abstracted image field. His later paintings transitioned into minimalist studies of texture and color, an organic evolution that maintains the same powerful impact when viewed.

Renowned for his talents in both painting and music, Stan possessed a truly distinctive musical style, crafting Jazz melodies using an instrument of his own invention: a large rubber band that remarkably mimicked the sound of a saxophone. Our shows title pays homage to the immensely influential album "A Love Supreme" by John Coltrane, which originally inspired Stan to create music. This tribute reflects the profound impact the album had on Stan, the sentiment it represented for him, and his enduring passion for creating art.
